GT DHi

RTS, LTS (in all it‘s various guises), LOBO…OK, so each of these bikes may have later turned out to have a few flaws, but let’s not forget that at their time of release they were all found on World Cup podiums, and deservedly so. GT’s i-Drive system has been around for a while now, they obviously believe in it, and the results seem to have backed them up.

Marin Quake AL7

For years Marin cut themselves a furrow in the single pivot field, but over the past few years they’ve sneaked in a few extra pivots. I say ‘sneaked’ because at first from a distance they looked almost identical to the old bikes, but there’s no mistaking what’s going on with the new Quake. At its heart is the XLT Quad-Link system, as Marin like to call it, which is in reality a four pivot, floating swingarm design. It may look completely different to bikes like the Giant and Iron Horse, but actually it’s of the same ilk.

Turner RFX

Before you all start thinking we really have finally gone completely stark raving mad, we do realise that the bike you see before you does in fact say ’Six Pack’ on it, not RFX, but fear not, it is one and the same. Mr Turner obviously decided that he should never have got rid of the old name and so has brought it back from the dead, unlike his Horst link! I don’t know if they really want much attention brought to the fact that their bikes are no longer true 4–bars, but I can’t help it.

Group Test - Hardtails 2

Trails, 4X, street… which ever one you pick, your chosen steed is unlikely to be anything but a hardtail. With that in mind we thought it about time we did a quick roundup of some best ones to be had at the moment. In the tradition of ‘keeping it real’ as they say, all 6 of the frames featured are made from steel, which should mean they’ll all last you donkeys years.

I think I’ve died and gone to heaven, I’ve got hardtails coming out of my ears! It’s like I said before, there’s a whole heap of hardtails out there that deserve a mention, but here’s a quick look at the six tastiest offerings to land at Dirt HQ this month.

In the world of downhill I can only think of a few bikes that are both ‘super’ and ‘exclusive’ (and unavailable) at the same time – the Honda, Nicolai, B1 and MSC gearbox bikes.
