Brian Vernor

Pretty much everyone that I’ve ever come across in the bike industry has a passion for what they do (the minimal wages help to dictate that), but some people seem to take it to a whole new level. Brian Vernor is one of those people. He doesn’t just love mountain biking, he loves cycling and all it stands for full stop.

Endtroducing - Dan Brown

I’ve known Dan Brown for a long time. From drinking Stella’s loaded with Lemsip with Peaty in the Corner House in Innerleithen, to testing bikes for the mag, racing, dirt jumping, running a shop…he has mountainbiking running through his veins. Having said that he did have an early mid life crisis when he moved to the South West and thought that he was going to be a surfer! He saw the light and is now working as the road manager for the Atherton Racing team.

Elmar Keineke is a talented and busy man. He is a racer (he has just taken third place in the Masters 2 category at the European Championships), team manager and is the mountain bike Marketing Manager for SRAM Europe…so he’s pretty busy then. And he’s been around forever (well it seems that way), and of course is a super cool guy.

Pro Bike - Duncan Riffle’s Honda Iron Horse

For Duncan Riffle bike set up is all important. For many racers they just ‘run it’ but Riffle is meticulous in his choices and preparation. Riding for the Honda Iron Horse team this year he has been able to travel the globe racing the World Cup series, taking in places such as Europe and South America. He has also recently taken the US DH National title for a second time. He is focussed, professional and dedicated. He is 100% racerhead.

No one gets more DH race mileage out a bike than Ashley, so it’s good that this thing is up to the job. It is like the cod from his local chippy, battered on the outside but chunky and fresh on the inside, with no bones

Twenty-four year old Jonathan Knight is the main man behind Belfast based brake upgrade company Redraven. They make an upgrade kit for your existing brakes that includes mounting brackets and huge 230mm discs! We wanted to have a word and ask Johnny a few questions about Redraven, so we fired him over a quick email to find out more.

G-Cross Honda rider Greg Minnaar has been riding to near perfection this year. Whilst his main rivals have either fallen by the wayside with injuries or have just not been fast enough Greg has raced steadily and confidently on his way to World Cup victory.

We reported last issue that Freerider Andrew Shandro has recently hooked up a deal with outdoor performance clothing giant Helly Hansen (HH), in what many see as a partnership made in heaven, that will benefit both parties greatly. I wanted to find out a little more about their plans, what kind of products they were working on and what involvement Shandro would have.

You know my roots aren’t really in mountainbiking. Like almost everyone else my age (mid 30’s) there was no such thing as a ‘mountain bike’ when I was a kid. You rode whatever you had…racers with cow horns, trackers, Raleigh Commandos, Grifters, in fact any old bike...
