WIN A COMPLETE SHIMANO SAINT GROUPSET

This is a great prize, one lucky Dirt reader has the chance of winning a complete Shimano Saint groupset. Saint is aimed at the more 'extreme' and 'hardcore' rider and it is a groupset that is built to take a hammering. Lightened up for 2009, which now means that you get all the strength and durability of the original Saint components, but now in a lighter weight package.

So what can you win?

" Hollowtech II Crankset
" Shimano rear derailleur with Shadow RD Technology
" RapidFire Plus Shifter with 2-Way Release and Instant Release
" Hydraulic 4-Piston Design Disc Brake Caliper
" Hydraulic Servo-Wave Brake Levers with on-the-fly adjustment
" Front and Rear Hub set

And the nice guys at Madison (UK Shimano distributors) will even throw in a chain, cassette and disc set.

Closing date is June 1st

THE LO-DOWN ON THE NEW SAINT

The new M810 Saint groupset is a whole lot lighter, stiffer, stronger, but most importantly, more user friendly.

Chainset:
" Nearly 100g lighter than previous generation
" Re-profiled crankarms for greater ankle clearance and lengthened threads on the BB cups (particularly on the driveside where a longer thread was needed when using chain devices).

Brakes:
" Re-introduction of the 4-pot calliper, not seen since the legendary XT M755 in 2000. The new Saint 4-pot calliper, combined with the new Servo-Wave brake lever, creates an astounding 50% more braking power compared to the old version.
" The Servo-Wave levers, whilst adding to the immense stopping power, also offers improved modulation and utilises tool-free brake lever reach adjustment and free stroke adjustment for dialling in lever position and rotor-pad bite point.

Rapidfire Shifter:
" Compact, slimmed down shape and adjustable fit (mountable either side of the brake lever)

Rear Mech:
" Low profile 'Shadow' design.
" Stronger spring tension for snappier shifting feel.
" Neat mode converter which changes the tracking profile of the rear mech on the cassette depending on if you choose to run a conventional MTB cassette or a smaller ratio road cassette

Hubba hubba:
" A whopping 100g dropped off the rear hub alone over previous models.
" X4 better sealed than previous M800 rear hub.
" Super fast engagement speed on the freehub (10? micro-ratchet)
" Multiple axle options

Question

What type of technology does the new Shimano rear derailleur use?

BACKYARD TRACKS

Remember Dirt 69 and the backyard track feature? We featured a few peoples backyard set up, but we just scratched the surface there. We think that was just the tip of the proverbial backyard iceberg lettuce. We know that all of you have some sort of set up either in your back garden or maybe even in your front garden. You might have a pump track, you might have some dirt jumps or you might just have a sketchy old pile of pallets and planks.

Whatever you have we want to see. It'd be good if we could actually see your house or garden shed in the background. The best ones will end up in the glossy pages of Dirt.
